Get the most out of the database
Filter by province first. That surfaces your provincial and utility supports, plus any municipal financing. Federal programs apply nationally regardless.
Commercial buyers should filter for eligibility "Commercial"; farm operators for "Farm". Programs marked "Both" appear in either filter.
"Active" and "Open" are safe to plan around. "Paused", "Reducing", or "Verify" need direct confirmation from the program authority before you factor them into project economics.
Each record links to the official program page. Verify current amounts, eligibility, and application windows before making project decisions — programs move quickly.
How Canadian solar incentives are structured
Up to 30% refundable tax credit on eligible clean-technology capital costs. The single largest lever for most commercial and incorporated-farm projects in Canada.
Cost-shared federal funding for on-farm clean-tech adoption. Program intake windows vary — check current status.
Save on Energy (Ontario), Hydro-Québec business grant (Quebec), BC utility programs. Structure and eligibility differ province by province.
Property-assessed clean energy financing lets participating municipalities finance solar through property assessments. Especially active in Alberta.
PST/HST exemptions on solar equipment in some provinces, plus provincial ITC layering rules that affect stackability.
Every province has some form of grid-tie framework. Sizing decisions should reflect self-consumption ratios and export rates — not just retail price.
Let us tell you exactly which incentives apply to your project
Run our 2-minute calculator and we'll generate a personalized report that surfaces every federal, provincial, and municipal incentive relevant to your specific project — commercial or farm, in any province.
Homeowners: our residential rebates hub is the better starting point for house-scale projects.
Solar incentive database FAQs
How many Canadian solar incentives are in the database?add
58 programs as of 2026-08-01 — 35 currently active. The database covers federal (Clean Technology ITC, AAFC Agricultural Clean Technology), provincial retrofit and grant programs, municipal financing (CEIP, PACE), and provincial tax treatments across all 10 provinces and 3 territories.
Who is the database designed for?add
The focus is commercial and agricultural buyers — the audiences where incentive stacking materially changes project economics. Homeowners can still filter for programs that mention residential eligibility, but our residential rebates hub is the better starting point for house-scale projects.
How often is the database updated?add
The current dataset is dated 2026-08-01. Incentive programs change frequently — always verify current status, amounts, and application windows on the official program page linked from each record before finalizing project decisions or applications.
Which federal incentives can I combine (stack)?add
The federal Clean Technology Investment Tax Credit (up to 30% refundable) typically stacks with provincial retrofit programs like Ontario's Save on Energy or Quebec's Hydro-Québec business grant. On farms, the AAFC Agricultural Clean Technology (ACT) program is designed to work alongside the Clean Tech ITC. Municipal CEIP/PACE financing is separate — it changes how you pay for the project rather than reducing its cost. Verify stackability terms per program before applying.
What if I don't see my province listed for a given program?add
Coverage is uneven across Canada — some provinces have active dedicated solar rebates, others are limited to federal ITC + net metering. Filter by province to see everything that applies. If nothing shows, the federal Clean Tech ITC and (for farms) AAFC ACT are still available and often the largest levers.
How do I claim these incentives?add
Each database entry links to the official program page with the current application steps. For federal Clean Tech ITC, filing is via CRA Schedule 75 + Schedule 31 for corporations. Provincial and utility programs vary — most require pre-approval before construction. Ask your quoting installer about incentive-application support — many bundle it with the project.
This database is maintained by the SolarQuotes.ca editorial team. Each entry references publicly available program information from federal (Natural Resources Canada, CRA, AAFC), provincial (IESO, Hydro-Québec, BC Hydro, SaskPower, Manitoba Hydro, ministry pages), utility, and municipal sources. Program details change — verify current status, amounts, and eligibility on each official program page before applying.
Data current as of August 1, 2026.
